    Oh,Thank you Liesl.
I will definitely make a muslin for the bodice(at least) and I will cut it so there are black lines around my waist(to minimise the scary bits).

    Sewing for me,Hurray!

Done! I wasn't too sure about the horizontal stripes as I am pretty chunky around the middle..... but it is very comfortable and the R/1 class were most complimentary!

I can't access flickr patterns at the office, but I see you are talking about horizontal stripes - well, I read an article a while ago that says that it's a myth that horizontal stripes are fattening - see this link :).

Oh, thanks for the link! I've always suspected this was the case. It's nice to see it's been verified. I love stripes.

Interesting article. Thanks for sharing! I bought a horizontally striped nursing top after the baby. I was utterly shocked at how nice it looked when I tried it in the store. And this was with plenty of baby weight around the middle! It was a tiny little pinstriped thing with a cowl neck (which hid nursing access). I'm still skeptical of wider horizontal stripes, but there's a jcrew sweater that looks awfully good on the models.

Regarding long held fashion beliefs, I propose it's a myth that a line skirts are flattering. They make me look dowdy. Think about it. They start at most women's widest parts and keep going out! Give me a pencil any day.

Nicole, your dress nicely defines your waist. It must have been fiddly to get the stripes in just the right place?

    Thank you!
It was really fiddly, thanks for noticing. As silk is a natural fibre the stripes were not even so they would match when pinned but be slightly out when opened up and pressed.
I love sewing with silk though.
    My waist! I had a tiny waist when I was married,but I was 18!
