seams, closures + hems giveaway

Seams, Closures + HemsWe’re happy to announce that Liesl’s two video workshops, Seams, Closures + Hems and Apparel Sewing Basics, are now available for purchase here on the Lisette site.

To celebrate, we’re giving away a copy of the second of the two DVDs. To enter the drawing for a free copy of Seams, Closures + Hems, leave a comment telling us what your favorite seam finish is.

One entry per person, please. Comments may be subject to moderation before they are published, so don’t resubmit it if your comment doesn’t appear immediately. (As long as you didn’t see an error message when submitting your comment, you entry has been accepted.)

The drawing will run until 1:00PM ET on Dec. 1 at which point we will turn comments off and will ask our friends at Random.org to help us pick a winner. If your name is drawn, we’ll contact you via email to get your shipping address.

(Oh, by the way, whatever you do, do not check that little box below that says “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail.” Trust me. You don’t want your inbox to be inundated with emails from strangers telling you about their favorite seam finishes.)

Love the french seam (it’s the only one I know;o).

I love the idea of a flat fell seam, though I have not yet actually sewn one!

French seams all the way. I love the clean, professional look they produce. Thanks for the giveaway!

Louise said...

Well I’ve only ever used the zig zag finish myself 😉 But as far as seams that I’ve seen other people sew, I do like the French seam best.

I use french seams when I can & I covercast edges & press open otherwise. I d’ love to learn the best way to finish curved seams & the proper way to bind seams.I love your patterns so much & want to do them justice by learning to sew seams & details properly & neatly.

Love French Seams! But I bet Liesl’s DVD would make them even easier for me to do!

Well, I only know how to do a couple of different finishes, but I do love the way my serged seam allowances look and French seams are so nice too! It all depends on my mood and how much time I have to sew and if my serger is already properly threaded. 🙂

Cindy said...

My favorite seam finish would probably be a serged one. They’re quick and easy!

Well it depends. If I´m sewing something in wool maybe a double turn and some ribbon tape on it (I hope this is the correct name to it). If I´m sewing in cotton some french seams. I don´t have a serger so if I´m working by hand I have to do it very carefully. I hope I win because there is so much to learn!!
Thanks for the giveaway.

I love french seams the best for look – especially in classic looking children’s clothing. For something fast and professional looking, I also like serged edges. Thanks for the chance to win this great DVD!!

My favorite seam is the hong kong seam….perhaps because I currently live in Hong Kong?

I like the good old french seam.

I love, love, love, French seams.

I love how French seams look, but I usually serge/overlock all of mine.

I love french seams!

Gotta agree with the apparent majority thus far, French seams are just so neat. Love them! (Pest if you make a mistake though)

Love a clean French seam. Would love to win so I can learn more! thx

I also love the french seam, neat, precise, good looking! BUT, serged seams make for wonderful finished garments at times, depending on fabric choice!

colette said...

I love the french seam too. I can never be bothered to change my serger thread and it annoys me when it doesn’t match!

Barbara J said...

Thank you for the giveaway.

For straight seams and simple home garments my preferred seam is the French seam. However with work garments I opt for Hong Kong finish. I understand it takes much longer especially if I have to pin and then baste the bias binding before stitching in the ditch but I truly love the professional finish it provides.

Chris said...

I always use a french seam, or completely line the garment.

Dolores @ A Labour of Love said...

Well, I don’t have a serger so I would like to be confident with french seams if I sewed more garments. Also, rolled hems & bias binding are something I would like to conquer.

French seam! Would love to win!

Favourite is a serged seam, runner up is zig-zag that a wise woman showed me how to sew-off the fabric so it doesn’t curl/bunch the edge!

I would love to add the DVD’s to my sewing library. Oliver + S patterns are always my favorite to construct! Thank you for the giveaway.

I love French seams especially for my daughter’s clothes.

I’ve recently learned to make flat-felled seams, and I love the effect! I’d also love to win a copy of this video — thank you for the chance!

I might be the odd one but I have a pair of gingher pinking shears that i like.
It’s quick and easy.

favorite seam finish by far is bound by bias tape. it’s time consuming but gorgeous!

I’m still a beginner so I haven’t done it very often, but I think French seams are so cool! I would love to win this dvd especially as I’m very hesitant and a bit clueless when it comes to finishing seams.

French seam…..and a serged one comes in as a close second!!

My favorite seam is the french seam, it just looks so clean and tidy. Thanks for the giveaway!

Valerie said...

french seams OR serged seams, depending on whether I’m up to getting out an extra machine to make something look pretty on the inside!

Carol said...

A 4 thread serged finish. After that, I like the French seam. 🙂 It’s nice to have options.

Jennifer Potter said...

Okay, was so excited about potentially winning that I gave the answer for the O&S giveaway questions. My favorite seam finish is bias tape!

Jessica said...

I just learned how to do french seams and flat felled seams thanks to your website. I really like both, but if I had to choose between the two I would go with the french.

Asmita said...

Hello. I am still a beginner, maybe a advanced beginner, but still very much a beginner. I like to do a zigzag to finish seams. I am beginning to experiment with french seam but that has led to some frustration so far. So for now for some quick and satisfying sewing it is zigzag. i would love to win the video for all the new things it would teach me!

Tina in Boston said...

I have to agree with the others–I love a good french seam! It just finishes off a piece so well!!

I love the French seam for it’s nice finish but alas it is the only one I really feel comfortable with too! Your DVD’s are a great idea.

Add my vote to the landslide win for french seams. They’re new to my bag of tricks, and they look so nice.
